The plant’s romantic reputation started with the Celtic Druids of the 1st century A.D. They viewed it as a symbol of vivacity because it could blossom even during the frozen winter. So they used it to restore fertility.
You will find the locally grown PATCHEN variety in our wreaths, kissing balls, and sprigs tied with ribbons for kissing.
There are many varieties, the most popular being the English ones. The so-called California Holly is actually Toyon, which grows at PATCHEN along with several of the English varieties. You will find it highlighting our wreaths and as individual sprigs and branches for Holiday decorating.
