Seasonal Job Offerings
The selling season for Choose & Cut Christmas trees begins the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and runs through Christmas Eve. Unlike most farms, PATCHEN opens a week earlier, on the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving, which provides time to put all our systems in order and time for everyone to learn their jobs before the rush begins.
The two farms provide jobs for twenty or more people spanning this six week period. Most workers are high school and college students who work exclusively on weekends, leaving opportunities for adult workers, seven days per week for the entire six week period.
Job Descriptions are available for the three different classes of workers. Prior experience in retail sales or similar industries is helpful but not essential. These are Minimum-Wage jobs in a liberal “Tip Environment”, and include the option of a performance bonus at the end of the Season.
Maintaining several thousand Christmas trees involves considerable work, ranging from vehicle and equipment maintenance to extensive manual labor and even office work. Part-time opportunities include;
- truck / tractor repair
- hauling and spreading wood chips between trees
- building maintenance
- tree planting
- tree shearing and pruning
- weed control
- manufacturing Tree-Fresh products
PATCHEN California and Old Summit Forest Products are growing and profitable businesses, operating in the same two locations for over 50 years. The farms encompass six parcels of land in Santa Clara County and one in Santa Cruz County.
